About Tim Murphy

Tim Murphy, Murphy Strategies, LLCTim Murphy is the Principal at Murphy Strategies, LLC.  Murphy Strategies taps into Tim’s network and global business development experience to drive revenue for his clients and partners.  Tim is a proven results leader with global experience and over thirty years of distinguished C-level Business to Business selling experience.

Prior to founding Murphy Strategies, Tim had a thirty year career with American Express with increasing responsibility and scope.  He was integral with several key product launches including Amex’ Corporate Card, Travel Management Services, Corporate Purchasing Card, and Global Client Group.  Tim’s direct sales career at American Express was highlighted by eight President’s Club awards for outstanding sales productivity – a record that stands today.  For his career accomplishments, in 2000, Tim was inducted into American Express’ Hall of Fame with their then and current Vice Chairmen.

In addition to leading new and evolving product launches, Tim adapted American Express products to several markets.  He began his career in Minneapolis, then he moved on to Chicago, then to Phoenix to work the Western Region and finally, internationally, when he was promoted to Vice President of the Global Client Group.

Tim is a change agent and brought several innovations to enhance American Express’ sales process throughout his career.  In order to add credibility to the sales process, Tim leveraged his relationships with clients and incorporated them into the selling process – beyond merely using clients as a reference.  Tim created the client-led forum that became a Best Practice at American Express.  He also engaged key high profile clients to proactively endorse American Express.  In order to bring efficiency into the sales process, Tim sponsored the implementation of sales automation into the Global Client Group.  The process included provider evaluation/recommendation, business case building and internal selling, and implementation.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a major in Marketing.  After participating in numerous selling skills courses, Tim led Sales Best Practices classes at American Express.  He has also been a guest speaker at Travel and Expense Management industry functions. 

Tim and his wife Debbie live in Scottsdale, Arizona. Tim is an avid golfer with three holes in one to his name. Tim’s favorite golf destination is Ireland and is affiliated with Lahinch and County Sligo Golf Clubs. In addition to golf, Tim and Debbie enjoy cycling, swimming, and traveling.
